POSTED 15th DECEMBER 2025
Hi all, it's time for the yearly round up.
Firstly, we wanted to thank everyone for another fantastic year at the Burnett Academy, from students, parents, grandparents, instructors, and assistance instructors. It makes our job so much easier as everyone is such a pleasure to teach and interact with. Burnett Academy is more than a club. it's a family where everyone supports and encourages each other
This year, we've had 2 incredible black belt gradings. Every time, we push the students to their limits and then some more.
It's always lovely to see how students support each other to motivate them to get through hard moments
I hope everyone enjoyed the teen/ adult meal last night (Sunday), it's great to see everyone enjoying themselves
The kids bowling is this Saturday (20th December), we are looking forward to it, and hope your kids are too. It's at Ilkeston bowling alley at 10am-12pm. We still have spaces. Your kids are free to come.
This year marks Joash and myself 25 years in martial arts ( yes, we are that old) it feels like it was in our blood to do martial arts, from the programs we watched as kids, Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to shows about saving the world. It's made us take up martial arts and to be the best we can be, to give everything to it and not to give up
We will continue to give 100% to every class in 2026, teaching you to be the best you can be.
We read a quote the other day. "Don't aim to be the best in the room. Be the best you can be,"
This applies to us as instructors as well as students. We are always trying to bring out the best in every individual. Each student learns at their own pace.
We are looking for progress, not perfection
If you're in your 1st year or 15th of training, continue to give your very best next year
The last lesson of the year is Sunday 21st December and the first lesson back is Friday 2nd January. Enjoy a few weeks without any burpees.
Make sure you look back on this year, to see how much you have improved and what you have learnt. Time to set your martial arts goals for 2026.
Lastly, we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Thanks so much!
Jamie, Joash and Harry
